The house is a large Arts & Crafts style home. The roof is black. We are painting the yellow portion only of our large home.
We are painting the upper yellow portion and the soffits. The lower bottom is mixed stone, the middle is red brick, the upper floor is cedar shakes painted in Gloucester sage. The yellow never looked right. I think that Benjamin Moore sag harbour gray HC-95 would be great and blend in with the stone and work well with the black windows. Any comments?
- Any other suggestions for the yellow area and soffit area?
I've suggested ideas for another reader's house (link):
Jackie Craven, About.com Architecture, says:Your home is a wonderful example of both Arts & Crafts and the Prairie style architecture. Benjamin Moore Sag Harbour gray HC-95 is an excellent pick. As you guessed, the gray will balance well with the stone foundation. Also, the earthy gray color is very appropriate for a home built during the Arts & Crafts movement, which encouraged the use of natural colors and materials. However, don't be afraid of bolder shades. Frank Lloyd Wright, who pioneered the Prairie style, often used earthy reds and yellows.
