About My House
Located in foothills of Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. It was built in 1997/98 by the first owner.
Cape Cod Features
Central fireplace with chimneys in living room and basement. Central hallway, 1 1/2 stories and living room ceiling is 22 ft at the apex and open to the upstairs catwalk, foyer is also 2 stories high. Dormer windows in upstairs bedrooms and second story height in foyer. Absolutely love the wrap-around front porch and the back porch. Love that the living room is on the back of the house and open to the kitchen.
Lessons Learned
Second story cathedral ceilings are NOT energy efficient - they look great but all heat goes upstairs even with ceiling fans running in reverse - you have to run a fireplace insert with a blower to heat the room in winter - will never buy another house with ceilings that high in the living room
