About My Bungalow
Curious if my house is a Sears "Modern Home No. 2008, The Somerset" style. It has the bay window off the dining room and very similar layout. It was built 1919 in a railroad town of Laramie, Wyoming.
Original windows, wood floors, charm and sweet aura of hard-working and loving families!! The kitchen is small but we have maximized with pull out cutting boards and small decorative table. I love the original light fixtures, door hardware and doors!
Lessons LearnedCreate your own spaces. We also remodeled the basement to provide space for the kids.
Jackie Craven, About.com Architecture, says:
Your bungalow is delightful and the size and layout is, indeed, similar to the Sears Modern Home No. 2008, The Somerset, mail order house plans. However, the Somerset is front-gabled, while your house is side-gabled with an entry porch at the front. Possibly the original floor plan was remodeled. Or, possibly the builder was inspired by the Sears plan, but did not follow it exactly.
If your house was built using a Sears mail order house kit, or a mail order house kit from one of the other catalog companies, you'll find physical evidence such as labels on the rafters or plumbing fixtures. For tips, see: About Your Mail Order House.
