About My Bungalow

This is a 1924 Sears or Aladdin Bungalow. A Tennessee newspaper had an article about it. The owner said that it was brought in by a train and then built. She said it was an Aladdin. It was the first house in the Culleoka, Tennessee area that had plumbing. A lot has been printed on the history of this house.

Favorite Details

Our house has 10-feet high ceilings, wood floors, porches, and tall windows. The back porch was added in 1958. My wife and I added the deck overlooking an acre of land. We love sitting on the porch having our morning coffee. Culleoka is a nice small town where everyone knows this house.

Lessons Learned

  • We did downsize, so for us this house was what we always wanted when the kids moved out.
  • Get some air beds when you have company over. It's a lot of fun.

Jackie Craven, About.com Architecture, says:

I can see why your house gives you so much joy! Sears wasn't the only company to sell mail order bungalows, and it sounds like you have good evidence to show that your house was purchased from Aladdin. For anyone interested in learning more about mail order bungalows, here are some resources:
