About My Bungalow

Unsure if my house is a Chicago Bungalow or a variation of it...but was built in the 1930s in Sherrard, IL and has an odd shaped front door.

Favorite Details

My favorite details about the house are the cove ceiling and unique plaster application design throughout the house. The house also has great arched doorways throughout the house and a unique front door hat curves up to a point at the top.

Lessons Learned

  • Built-ins are great to tuck away belongings. An old iron board cabinet also works well as a spice cabinet making more cupboard space.

Jackie Craven, About.com Architecture, says:

Thank you for telling us about your house! In some ways it does resemble a brick Chicago Bungalow. Of course, bungalows can take on many different styles, and the overall shape of your home suggests a Cape Cod. For a similar mixture of styles, see this 1924 house from our House Style Mystery series.
