About My Bungalow
We purchased our bungalow from an estate. The interior needed serious work and the porch floor was replaced. We are researching it because we feel it is a kit-built home. We live in Bay City, MI home of Aladdin and Liberty homes. We have researched the title back to the 1940s, but the home was built in 1926. There are 2 Liberty kit homes across the street, so it is possible ours is a Liberty home too. I have seen many catalogs for Aladdin Homes and Liberty homes but no exact match. I do know sometimes when the kits arrived, some changes were made by the builders. I may enlist the help of the local museum.
Favorite Details
The porch is the full width of dwelling. The house has open eaves and 24" overhang with brackets. The dwelling has the original wood lap siding and many original details. The ceilings are 9' high, which makes it seem much larger than it really is. The built in bookcases in the colonnade separating the dining room and living room along with the fireplace add to the charm and warmth of the interior.
Lessons Learned
It is now just the two of us, so space has not been a problem. This house seems a perfect size. We downsized 3 years ago from a large 2400 sq. ft. home. We had a lot of antiques and they complement the bungalow style. We did have to get rid of a lot of furniture, but most of it stayed in the family.
