About the Project
The Camp Stone is a luxury single family residence built in a lake / mountain setting. The use of stone, cedar shake, and Douglas Fir timbers give the exterior of the home a comfortable and rustic feel. The Camp Stone features a true timber frame structure. The open rooms and soaring ceilings provide views of the beautiful Douglas Fir timbers used in the construction of the home. Reclaimed heart pine floors, stone fireplaces, and tongue and groove pine ceilings continue the rustic feel found on the outside. The main level includes a custom kitchen, two dining areas, a great room, and luxury owner's suite.
Significance
The Camp Stone is the largest true timber frame home built in the region. It is used as a luxury second home and as a corporate retreat. The size of the project and the use of reclaimed and natural materials make this home a unique showplace for the area. Lessons Learned
- Building a large authentic timber frame home adds significantly to the cost of the structure.
- Subsequent homes designed in the area were framed in a traditional way with timber work added as a decorative element after framing.
- This method significantly reduces construction costs while achieving a similar look.
