Daniel Libeskind's original plans were adapted to create this vision of Freedom Tower at the new World Trade Center site on Ground Zero in New York City.

Section of Freedom Tower, June 27, 2006
If you click to enlarge this picture, you will see the height measurements for each section of Freedom Tower. The main building will be 1,368 feet (417 meters) high. That's the same height as the Twin Tower buildings that were destroyed by terrorists. However, the spire will bring the Freedom Tower height up to the height Libeskind had wanted: 1,776 feet. This height is symbolic because 1776 is the year the United States became an independent nation.
