Students from Penn State fused nature with technology when they designed their "Natural Fusion" solar house for the 2009 Solar Decathlon. Pioneering Green Roof Integrated Photovoltaics, the house combines a photovoltaic (PV) system with plants. The PV panels collect the sun's energy, and the plants help remove heat from the roof.

Bringing nature inside, the house has a living green wall for growing spices and herbs, and clerestory windows and tri-fold doors to fill interior spaces with natural light.
