When rock star Elvis Presley created the Meditation Garden in the mid-1960s, it was intended as a place for quiet reflection. Now it is the Presley family burial site.
Originally, Elvis Presley was buried at Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee. A group of men tried to steal Elvis Presley's coffin. The gravesites of Presley's parents, Gladys and Veron Presley, were also at risk. So in October 1977, the family was moved to Graceland and re-interred in the Meditation Garden.
Features of the Meditation Garden:
- Twelve-foot circular pool with water jets illuminated by colored lights
- Curved wall constructed with Mexican brick and stained glass windows
- A grave marker for Elvis Presley's twin brother, Jesse Garon, who was still-born
- A kidney-shaped swimming pool nearby
