By Jackie Craven, About.com

Definition: Mud and stud is a building technique that can be traced back to Lincolnshire county along the east coast of England. Archaeologists think that British colonists in Jamestown, Virginia used mud and stud to construct the original [link url=http://dc.about.com/od/getawaydestinations/ss/JamestownPhotos_7.htm">James Fort[/link] in the early 1600s.
