How to Install a Recessed Cabinet
- Use a stud finder to locate the stud position.
- Measure your cabinet.
- Measure a space between two studs.
- Make sure there are no electrical outlets or fixtures between the two studs.
- Use an inexpensive utility knife to cut an opening in the wallboard. If your walls are plaster, you may need to chisel an opening in the lath.
- Clean dust and debris from the opening.
- Apply construction adhesive (often supplied with the cabinet) and fit the cabinet into the wall opening.
- For extra support, you can screw one side of your cabinet securely to a wall stud.
