By , About.com Guide

Neoclassical, or "new" classical, architecture describes buildings that are inspired by the classical architecture of ancient Greece and Rome. In the late 1800s and the first half of the twentieth century, many American homes used details borrowed from the classical past. The photos in this gallery illustrate many types of homes with Neoclassical features. To learn more about Neoclassical design, see: Neoclassical Architecture.
