| Part 3: The Ritz reflects a showy life in the film Notting Hill. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Portions of this feature are reprinted with permission from the Sheffield School of Design at www.sheffeild.edu In the film Notting Hill, actress Julia Roberts receives actor Hugh Grant in her suite at the Ritz. Unlike Grant's cluttered bachelor pad, the world Roberts inhabits is spacious and ornate. The room explodes with flowers and elaborate Victorian details. The pale yellow walls, antique clock, floral draperies and stiff Victorian settees do not invite friends to kick off their shoes and relax. This is a formal environment created merely to impress. It is only natural that Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant should be placed in different settings: She's a famous movie star; he's a clerk in a small bookstore that's struggling to stay afloat. However, their environoments reflect much more than their social standings. In Hollywood, as in life, every home expresses the values and personalities of the people who live inside.
