Connie Petersen-Greenker sends us this mystery:
"House was built in 1894. Has had some walls added and a doorway. In checking the light fixtures online, most of them turned out to be craftsman period. Was this a time of transition between those styles, or were these put in newly to accommodate electricity rather than gas??
We are considering finishing the attic and wonder if the stone and brick foundation on the outside wall will hold up under the weight of three stories.
There is a large coal room located behind that wall with two doors in it. The wood around the doors is rotting and the stone seems to be losing its grout. The remainder of the basement appears to be fine. Half is a crawl space and the other is a basement with brick walls and cement floor.
Would appreciate a definition of the style."
Can you explain the Craftsman Style lighting fixtures in this house? What suggestions can you give Connie as she remodels the attic of or home?
