Mystery House #41

The Mystery | Some Clues

Victorian home in Ontario, Canada

Karen Cade sends us this mystery:

"I have a house in Ontario built in about 1870. It is mostly brick with a woodframe back portion (initially the 'summer kitchen' we think). It is two storeys and the interior has undergone little in the way of renovation (added washrooms, kitchen update). I would love to know what style the house is and the usual original layout of rooms in this type of house. Also, would painted floors be appropriate to this time period and style of house? Apparently, the house was built by the mayor of town (it is beside the old town hall) and remained in his family for quite some time.

The house as shown in the picture has a square front portion with a slightly narrower 'L' behind it. The back of the house was built at the same time as the front portion."

More about the house:

Karen notes that according to a museum photo, the house once had a wraparound porch.
