Mystery House #40
Made by Sears?

The Mystery | Some Clues

Sears Mail Order Home ?
Front

Sears Catalog Home ?
Side

William sends us this mystery:

"This house has beveled block on the exterior walls. The front porch is not original to the house - I think it was added later. It has a total of eight dormers with one in the back, two on the right side, three on the left and two in the front. The floor joists are set into the cement block and there are no stud walls on the interior walls next to the block. Someone told me that it was a Sears type house and that they gave the builder a form for the blocks which were made at a rate of a couple a day.

Does anyone have more information on this house?"

More about the house:

At the center of the house, there is a chimney which may have been used for a wood stove at one time. The front porch is built over a slab of cement, and may have originally been on the ground level. William says he is replacing a lot of the lower floor joists with treated lumber. The ends of the joists had rotted away, probably due to moisture. The side of the house is constructed of beveled block:
