Rob from Ontario, Canada sends us this mystery:
- Built in 1898
- Located in southwestern Ontario (Kitchener)
- Coal fireplace. Originally there was one other chimney which has been removed. It was probably in the original kitchen
- Very high ceilings (10 ft, both floors)
- Walk-up attic (unfinished), with one small semicircle window at left side of house (not visible in photo)
- Original roof was cedar shake over 1 ft barn board
- Baseboards one ft throughout. Door moldings have a two inch flower carving applied to each corner and one fleur-de-lis carving over door
- Moldings themselves are not mitred in top corners, but cut horizontally at the top of the doorway (noticed this today!)
- Double-hung windows (painted shut, of course!)
- Basement floor is red brick in one room, concrete in other two
- Heating is mix(!) of water rads and forced air (water in addition)
- No sign on outer walls
of there ever having been a porch
Rob also observes that the small porch in front may have been added later, perhaps at the time of the addition (visible on the left).
