Jorn Utzon lived with his wife Lis on the island of Majorca. Their first home there was built in the early 1970s. Almost twenty years later, the Utzons decided to build another house on Majorca, nestled on the side of a mountain. The decision to build there was prompted by several reasons. The glare from the sea became tiring for his eyes. Utzon suffered a condition that rendered him near blind at the end of his life. Utzon was also distracted by the pounding surf. Most of all, he wanted to retreat from architecture enthusiasts who wandered the area.
Can Feliz, as the new home was named, expressed Utzon's love for the concept of platforms. The house has been described as a miniature acropolis.
