"My
family recently bought this house and will be, hopefully, taking posession
of it within a few weeks. It needs some work, and I would like to do my
best to stay true to the original style, but I'm not sure what that style
is! Here are some additional clues:
- It is
123 years old, built in 1880 in a the height of the railroading days
in a railroad town in Kansas. Most other houses in this town that survive
from this era are Victorian or Folk Victorian style.
- The woodwork
and doorknobs, which we think are original, are pretty ornate. The side
of the staircase is covered with ornate wood paneling and the doorknobs
are oval shaped pressed tin.
- The house
looks square from the front (one room on the 1st floor protrudes out
the back)
- When you
enter the front door, you enter a fairly large high ceilinged foyer.
A staircase climbs, with two turns, one side of the foyar, while the
other enters into a parlor type room with a bay window.
I
really want to learn about our new house. If someone can help me with
the general style I think I can move from there, but any additonal information
you could provide would be great!" ~ Lindsayanne
