A Buffalo Foursquare? |
||||||
"I have just purchased a home in Buffalo, NY in the historic Olmstead district. There are entire neighborhoods with homes like this one in the area. Many were built around the same time period with Victorian, large Bungalows, Tudors and some Frank Lloyd Wright homes all on the same street. "At 2.5 stories, this home seems too large to be a Bungalow and doesn't exactly fit some of the key architectural elements such as exposed rafters and dormer style. It also has a floor plan that is too large for an American Foursquare with 5 large rooms on each floor, but does have the stairs situated by the entrance off to one side. "There are so many homes with this style in this area of Buffalo that I am sure that someone must know the history. They almost seem like enlarged bungalows reflecting the economic boom experienced in Buffalo at the time it was built. It seems to certainly belong to the Arts and Crafts movement, but does anyone know it classification? Is it unique to Buffalo? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I would like to know before starting restoration to ensure accuracy." ~Frank (Scroll down for a side view of the home.) Photos copyright © the homeowner |
