A reader from New Mexico, USA sends this mystery:

We just bought a house in southeastern New Mexico. We think it might be in the Spanish Colonial style. It is one of several homes in town which was built, according to local sources, approximately 80 years ago, by a local family prominent in business and ranching.

Inside it has mainly wood floors, no woodwork to speak of but does have some built-in cabinets and drawers in the dining room and hallway, which, when closed, are basically flush with the walls. These cabinets are painted to match the walls. The windows are large and open via a crank, which swings the entire window. There are no exposed beams, and the doorways are square, rather than rounded at the top. There is a flagstone fireplace in the living room. The 3 bedrooms are quite large, running the full length (approximately 20 feet) of the two-story portion of the house; two bedroom are upstairs, one on the main floor.

We are considering using some Mission or Arts & Crafts style furnishings for the home, especially in the living and dining area, because we like those styles and understand they are from the same time period the home was built. We would appreciate it if you might be able to confirm what style the house is. Any suggestions or ideas you might offer for furnishing would be helpful.

Do you -- or someone you know -- live in a home like this? Is it a Spanish Colonial? Do you have any ideas for furnishings and other interior details? Use this easy form to send your comments and ideas.
