Emergency Housing in Bam, Iran

By , About.com Guide

In December 2003, an earthquake devastated the city of Bam in Southern Iran. At least 26,500 people were killed (the death toll could approach 50,000) and 80% of the city's buildings were leveled.

Architecture for Humanity launched a direct appeal for architects, designers and engineers, preferably locally based, to lend design services on a pro bono basis. Architecture for Humanity also began directing financial resources to aid in the rebuilding effort in Bam.
