WTC Memorial Designs Critiqued

News is buzzing with commentary on the finalists in the New York World Trade Center Memorial design competition. Architecture critics are asking:

• Can anyone design a memorial this soon after the tragedy? (Metropolis)
• Are the designs suited for a busy urban space? (NY Newsday)
• Do the designs have staying power, or are they all flash? (Slate)
• Can we visualize the completed works amidst the confusing presentations? (NY Post)
• Are the designs overembellished? (NY Times)
• Was the design process too rushed? (Gotham Gazette)
• Are the designs too impersonal? (NY Times)
