Honest Abe: Master Remodeler?

By February 12, 2014

Follow me on:

Before he transformed the nation, Abraham Lincoln took on another type of renovation. Abraham Lincoln's Illinois home, two story gold clapboard with green shutters

Under his direction, the Lincoln Home in Springfield, Illinois changed from a modest 1-story cottage into the 2-story homestead we see today. The family left Springfield for the White House, but probably intended to return to their remodeled home. Unfortunately, history had other plans.

The Lincoln Home in Springfield, Illinois is now a National Historic Site open to visitors. What a great way to honor the President's birthday, February 12.
