Our list of Great Black American Architects might give you the impression that Greatness is a title given only to the dead (or the very old). Au contraire! During Black History month, let's also celebrate the work of prominent African-American architects currently practicing in our communities...
For decades Melvin L. Mitchell, FAIA, teacher and author of The Crisis of the African-American Architect (compare prices), has been a staple at Bryant Mitchell in the Washington, D.C. area.
Likewise, William Raymond Manning, FAIA and his Manning Architects have served New Orleans before and after Hurricane Katrina.
These men are just two of the many Black American business owners who have created jobs with their architectural and design firms. Are there architects you would like to add to our list? Leave a comment below.
What does FAIA mean?
