Gothic detail on top floors of Woolworth BuildingEver dream of living in the sky? You can! Many of the newer skyscrapers are designed for both commercial and residential use, and some historic older skyscrapers are making room for apartments, condos, and hotels.
  • The Woolworth building: A century after Cass Gilbert designed the neo-Gothic skyscraper, developers are adding luxury condominiums. These pricy penthouses will be among the highest places you can live in New York City. Full story in the New York Times
  • The Shard: Designed by Renzo Piano, London's newest skyscraper will include a 202-room Shangri-La Hotel inside the soaring spire. The hotel is set to open in 2013.
  • The Aqua Tower: Jeanne Gang's Chicago skyscraper with the striking wavy walls includes an ultra-modern Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel. Rooms are on the lower levels, but hey... think of the fun you'll have looking up!
