November 24 is the birthday of skyscraper pioneer Cass Gilbert. Born in Ohio, 1859, Gilbert was in his prime during New York City's pre-Depression building boom. His designs helped shape many cities, as described in Inventing the Skyline: The Architecture of Cass Gilbert.
