The Sydney Opera House Celebrates a Birthday

The Sydney Opera House After 15 years of construction, the Sydney Opera House designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon opened on October 20 in 1973. While it was being built, the startling, shell-shaped structure stirred controversy and political intrigue. Utzon was awarded the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 2003.
