Can Wright's Temple Be Saved?

Wednesday April 29, 2009
Unity Temple by Frank Lloyd Wright Prayers might not be enough to save Frank Lloyd Wright's revolutionary Unity Temple in Oak Park, Illinois. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has named Wright's building one of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places in 2009.

Unity Temple was one of the earliest public buildings constructed of poured concrete. Wright's plan didn't call for expansion joints, so now the concrete is cracking. To save the historic church would cost millions of dollars.

The National Trust's 2009 listing of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places also includes Lana'i City on the island of Lana'i, Hawaii and Mount Taylor in New Mexico.
