Celebrating Norma Merrick Sklarek

Tuesday April 14, 2009
Tomorrow, April 15, is the birthday of Norma Merrick Sklarek. Born in 1928, Sklarek was the first African-American woman to be licensed as an architect in the United States and the first woman to be elected Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. Then, in 1985, she became the first African-American woman to open her own architectural firm.
