Design That Gives a Damn
Today, on World Food Day, the humanitarian organization Mercy Corps celebrates the grand opening of their World Hunger Action Center in New York City. Designed by Edwin Schlossberg and ESI Design, the 4,000-square-foot storefront center is a form of interactive architecture that encourages visitors to become involved. Instead of creating a static displays, the center has Take Action kiosks and a variety of participatory exhibits and videos, including one narrated by the Sarah Palin sound-alike comedian, Tina Fey. Mercy Corps plans to use the high-tech Action Center as a hub for live reports from relief workers around the world.
