Happy Birthday, Giacomo da Vignola

Wednesday October 1, 2008
18th Century Engraving Italian architect Giacomo da Vignola was born on October 1, 1507. Also known as Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola, Giacomo da Vignola worked in and near Italy, especially in Rome, during the Renaissance. Giacomo da Vignola studied with Michelangelo and, like Palladio, he set the standard for architecture in Europe. His book, The Five Orders of Architecture (compare prices), helped establish rules of proportion used in building.
