Why Neo-Gothic?

The Neo-Gothic Tribune Tower In the early 1920s, the Chicago Tribune wanted to build the "most beautiful office building in the world." Yet, out of all the proposals submitted to their competition, they selected a conservative Neo-Gothic design by architects Raymond Hood and John Howells. Why Neo-Gothic?
