A Bridge to Beauty?

The tragic collapse of the Interstate 35W Bridge in Minneapolis has presented City officials with a tough choice: What's more important, speed or aesthetics?

The new bridge across the Mississippi River could become a world renowned landmark and tourist attraction designed by a top name such as architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava or Swiss bridge designer Christian Menn. But it takes time to build a masterpiece. Transportation officials worry that bringing in a big name designer will slow the construction process.
