Greek gods mingle with gilded figures of Burmese dancers in the eccentric Welsh village, Portmeirion. The designer, Bertram Clough Williams-Ellis, devoted his life to environmental preservation. He wanted to prove that it was possible to build beautiful - and colorful - housing without defiling the natural landscape. So Sir Clough dotted Portmeirion with a whimsical mix of styles drawn from 5,000 years of architectural history.
