Built for Prayer

Saturday July 22, 2006
When I think of sacred architecture, my mind usually wanders to Europe, where the early Gothic cathedrals took root. And then there are the wonderful onion-domed churches in Russia and the magnificent, and tragically endangered, mosques of Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries. But the United States also has rich resources of sacred architecture. For example, you'll find an unusually large cluster of historic churches in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio.

Recently, our About Guide to Cleveland, Ohio went on an architectural walking tour with camera in hand. Here are her photos of Temont's historic churches.
