Tacky Makes the National Trust

Tuesday June 13, 2006
It's a dubious honor. The funny, funky Doo Wop motels of Wildwood, New Jersey are on this year's Most Endangered Places list published by America's National Trust. Doo Wop is a type of flashy and often tacky Googie architecture designed to attract customers. Recently, nearly 100 Doo Wop motels were demolished, mostly to make way for condominiums. How can you help? Spend the night in a Doo Wop Hotel, say Doo Wop preservationists.
