Saddam Hussein's Crimes Against Architecture

- photo by Daniel O'Connell, Gunnery Sergeant, USMC Saddam Hussein, who is on trial for crimes against humanity, is also accused of crimes against architecture. In Babylon, he built himself a monument on top of ancient artifacts. He constructed a grandiose 600-room fortress next to the historic ruins of the Palace of Nebuchadnezzar. Saddam Hussein didn't actually use his grand new building, but it became an emblem of his power. Learn more:
