Urban Designers Seek Solutions Teen Shootings

The shooting spree on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in Minnesota is only one of many incidents of extreme school violence by a teen gunman. Over the past decade, similar shooting rampages have devastated a half dozen communities. The most dramatic shootings have occurred in small, insulated neighborhoods, set apart from major cities. What features do these neighborhoods have in common? By answering this question, urban designers and town planners hope to design safer, more humane neighborhoods.
