Mystery House: 1890s Michigan Farmhouse

Saturday January 24, 2004
Mystery House 2051 - 1890s Michigan Farmhouse "What style is our new house? We signed a purchase agreement on it last week, and are VERY excited. It was built in 1890 in Michigan... but I believe the single story shown below was added later - but I could be wrong!" Any ideas?

I lived in Michigan all my life. You see many of these houses in the Midwest, especially in West Michigan. farmers in Mich. would use many different styles of homes (depending on what was popular and what was affordable). A house could start as a Greek revival, then build a victorian addition. they would also slowly build on to their homes. All these things almost give it its own category of architecture, what I like to call “The Michigan Farmhouse”. I hoped this helped you in your search for the truth.
