On the Auction Block: The Farnsworth House

The Farnsworth house by Mies van der Rohe - photo © Steve Estes Ever dream of living in a house made of glass? If you have $4.5 to $6 million, you'll get your chance on December 12 when Sotheby's of New York auctions off the legendary Farnsworth House by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

According to reports in the Chicago Tribune and the New York Times, the decision to auction the house has alarmed architecture enthusiasts. Will the new owner move the house away from its pastoral location in Plano, Illinois? Can the 20th-century landmark be spared from heavy-handed remodeling? Stay tuned.
