How to Find an Architect

Friday October 3, 2003
The other day a reader asked me, "How do I go about finding an architect?" Sure, he could thumb through a phone book. He could also browse online architect directories. But, out of hundreds of names, how could he find the best architect for his very special home? For quick and easy tips, see our guide, How to Find an Architect. For more advice, download the pamplet "You and Your Architect". The pdf file is free from the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

One of the best ways is to ask someone who has a house, building, or business designed that you like and ASK them what working with the Architect was like.

Aside from design capabilities, having a good working relationship is important too.

I would also suggest using Servicemagic.com – we used them and found an architect who had great ratings and did a perfect job for us
